How do you know when it is springtime? If you live in West Texas, you look at the Mesquite trees. Mesquite trees are brilliant perfection. I don’t know how they know another freeze is coming – but they do. It might be 85 degrees and sunny for a week, but if the Mesquite hasn’t bloomed, you had better not take your coat to the cleaners.
For the rest of us, I found an article called “10 Signs Spring has Sprung.” Here is that list that we can count on . . . (or not.)
2: Spring smells. The author of the article mentioned fresh cut grass and flowers. She obviously doesn’t live next to a neighbor who wants to make certain her grass is very green – hence the strong smell of fertilizer.
3: People walking slower. Unfortunately that means the people who are congregating on the grocery aisle you need to go down.
4: Birds. I love waking up to my doves in the backyard – except for the fact they love to wake up early.
5: You drop 5 pounds. In case you were wondering, this is not a scientifically accurate list. Just ask my bathroom scale.
6: Your body feels better. This is really true. I have a few fingers these days that don’t like the winter months.
7: You get more done. I think this is because we have more to do. Spring is a busy season!
8: You hear music. Especially rap music being played at huge decibels while the rest of us pump our gas.
9: Buds are budding. Unless you live in West Texas…then it should say the Mesquite trees are budding.
10: Love is in the air. At least everyone looking for a date to prom is hoping so!
To this list I would like to add another.
It is spring break and I am not teaching my Bible studies. So…I will only write one blog and enjoy the rest of the 10 signs of spring. Who knows, maybe I’ll spend a little extra time walking the neighborhood, losing 5 pounds, and looking for those buds, birds and music. (Not the rap music, however.)
I hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy the signs of spring. If nature doesn’t cooperate, go to the mall. They have been trying to convince us it’s spring since Valentine’s Day!
(Hosea 6:3)
God and Mesquite trees. You can count on both!
