Highway 2012 – Destination 2030

The beginning of a new year is a good time to look back, but I would rather look forward.  I spent a lot of time searching the internet and reading about the top news events of 2011. I didn’t find one website that listed 2011 as a great year.  My next thought was, “Has there ever been a year that the news media reported as “great?”  I found the best year in animated movies, the best year for gaming, the best year for various sports teams or businesses, but as far as I can tell, there has never been a year that was labeled the best year in history.

The internet directly contributed to a wide variety of social and political movements last year.  The world functions differently now, because of the internet.  So…I’ve decided to begin a movement of my own, using the power of the internet – but relying on the power of God to bring it to pass.  Don’t worry…I am quite rational and very normal.  I just think it is time to get down to some serious Christian work.  I’m not in a hurry because this kind of change takes time.  The goal is to improve the culture by the year 2030.  I am praying that 2030 will be reported as the best year in history.  You can help.

The good news is this: There is great concern about the well-being of our culture.  People want this world to be a kinder, better place.  The problem is that the world is defining “kinder and better” instead of the Church, (the body of Christ).  As a Christian, are you kinder and better than you were a decade ago?  That is where we start.  I am planning some thoughtful and fun posts for the next year – and my focus will be living with high standards, biblical standards, for our lives.

2030 is eighteen years from now.  What will the world look like when the babies that were born in 2011, graduate from high school?  Will our homes have front porches or wired, security fences?  Will we shop at malls or only on the internet?  Will kids ride their bicycles in their neighborhoods or at membership only parks?  Will television shows reveal a stronger society or one that is even more broken?  Will the churches in America have fewer members than the local health clubs?  Will you be safer in 2030 than you were in 2012?  Will our children have stronger character and higher values than we did?

I think our culture is going to improve because I think people are hungry for that change.  If you are a mom, holding a baby right now, or a mom who will send your child back to college in a couple of weeks, or a grandma who is worried about your grandchildren – get on board.  We need to do more than talk and worry about this culture.  We need to get busy and make it better.

The early Christians changed their culture, we can too.  The South Korean Christians changed their culture, we can too.  The Christians in China, Cuba, Africa and Australia are changing their culture – we can too.  Highway 2012 – is this: Choose to live your life according to God’s word – that is the “high way of life.”  I will spend my time writing this blog, teaching God’s word and talking about the “high way” of living life.  I will do my best to live as an example of what I teach.  I’m 53 years old and I will be 71 in 2030…Lord willing.  The internet means I can help this world find the “high way” and I plan to try.  Will you join me?

2 Chronicles 7:14 begins, “If my people, who are called by my name…”  According to God, his blessing on our culture is determined by what “his people” do.  Highway 2012 – Destination 2030.  I’m looking forward to the future!
